morning eyes

in silence she waited

fallen into the black hole

of starless night shine

she feared her solitude

at first

and then began to warm

to the darkness cascading

over her bare collarbones

and nicked up knees

ebony tucked and ruched

around her mid drift

downing her chest

like a vest of nigh

saving her from chill and cold

she had been sifted into

in the choice of not chosen

with a voice of quiet

she knew her worth was more

than the story they tried to tell

or the script of replayed days

the love she saw in morning eyes

could not be rewritten
