sleeping song

blow the wind of your soul

through my open window

hide behind my sheer panels

in playful shy and seek

with the weight of my lead-belly lids

to close in a timely march

of the minutes counting down

day’s ending hours

as the heavy weight sits

on the lashes, you emerge

just to watch over me

keeping me safe from those

knocking on the pane

scratching at the glass

for harm’s harsh haunting

you close the curtain and

kiss my lips

shielding my heart’s sleeping song
