once upon a times

in once upon a times

I saw a chance for us

it wasn’t

bareback horses in foggy mornings

carrying us across untouched earth

with sunlight in our face,

moonlight at our backs, and

stars shining bright overhead

it wasn’t

karmic destiny of two souls

finally finding their hearts

in that of another

one they had searched high and low

a missing piece to complete

an already finished and whole person

no

it was

enjoyment being with you

days next to you felt like my favorite

way to pass the day away

moments, pauses and long drawn, of silence

didn’t seem so stark as they once had

opportunities to laugh together

tasted richer than ever before

and looking in your eyes 

reminded me of coming home again
